5 Tips for a Successful Massage Practice

September 15, 2010

Today, the massage therapy profession is as competitive as ever. How can you stand out among the others? How can your practice thrive when the economy is in recession? Here are 5 tips for creating a successful massage practice:

  1. Market your services using social networking – Marketing yourself does not have to cost you a penny. Social networking tools available today allow you to get your name out there for FREE. Create professional accounts on Twitter, My Space and Facebook.
  2. Include professional marketing tools within your practice – Advertise professionally within your practice by providing business cards, gift certificates, magnets, postcards or coffee mugs. Send clients you haven’t seen for a while a postcard letting them know you are thinking about them. Send your clients a postcard on their birthday. Little things will keep clients coming back to you in the future.
  3. Be professional - Being professional is a big seller for clients. A neat, clean, professional office setting will let your clients know that you are operating a first-class practice. Clients are drawn to kind, neat, professional people.
  4. Be educated - Another aspect of professionalism is being educated, or specialized, in your field. Be knowledgeable in whatever modality of massage you are practicing. Know the contraindications, indications and when to refer your clients to their healthcare physician. Being credible to your clients creates a trusting relationship.
  5. Learn chair massage – Learning chair massage will allow you to expand your services to the corporate world, expanding your professional image to the public. Chair massage allows you to travel to clients instead of waiting for them to come to you. In today’s fast paced world, chair massage may be just the boost your practice needs.
